The two major endocrine glands in the brain are the pituitary gland and the pineal gland.
The pituitary gland, referred to the "master gland", is located toward the front of the brain and controls vital body functions. It regulates functions of other glands in the body, as well as growth, flight or fight response, reproduction, and excretion. The pineal gland, located behind the thalamus, secretes melatonin, which regulates the circadian rhythm and sleep.
